To find a discounted price, multiply the original price by the discount percentage and subtract from the original. Example: $80 item with 25% off → $80 × 0.25 = $20 savings → Final price = $60.
Not all percentages are equal! A 50% discount on a $200 item saves $100, while a 30% discount on a $400 item saves $120. Always calculate the actual dollar savings, not just the percentage, when comparing deals.
When stores offer "additional X% off sale prices," discounts are applied sequentially, not added. A 20% discount followed by an additional 10% off equals 28% total (not 30%), because the 10% applies to the already-reduced price.
