A percentage is a way of expressing a number as a fraction of 100. The word "percent" literally means "per hundred." Percentages are used everywhere — in shopping discounts, tax calculations, test scores, financial planning, and much more.
Finding X% of a number: Multiply the number by X and divide by 100. Example: 20% of 150 = (150 × 20) ÷ 100 = 30.
Finding what percent X is of Y: Divide X by Y and multiply by 100. Example: 30 is what % of 150? = (30 ÷ 150) × 100 = 20%.
Percentage change: Subtract the original from the new value, divide by the original, multiply by 100. Example: From 100 to 125 = ((125-100) ÷ 100) × 100 = 25% increase.
